New Year Celebration in the Philippines

New Year's Eve is one of the special occasions in the Philippines where Filipino families celebrate it togeher with wide selection of delicious dishes, making defeaning loud noises to welcome new year with belief that the following year will be more abundant and joyous.

Filipinos have a lot of traditions and beliefs that are being done once both hands of the clocks hits the number twelve. Let me tell you some of those cultures we have to welcome the new year with open arms.

Media Noche or New Year's Eve is one of those few occasions that you would wish to be with your love to celebrate the coming year together.

Filipino families on this exceptional day delay their dinner and have it instead at midnight with wide variety of dishes and rounded fruits to guarantee that the following year would be abundant and successful.

Colorful fireworks display and playing wild glaring loud music are also being observed during this time of the year. It is believed that such will symbolize colorful and joyous year. Honestly, I hate the part about the loud music when you have to scream on top of your lungs just to be heard, but hey, if you can't beat them, join them, right? So I also did that this year and so was the beautiful but pricey fireworks.For some Pinoys, to celebrate the new year safely and economically, blowing car horns and banging stainless pots would do to produce loud noises that will drive the evil away.

Another tradition of Pinoy is to jump ten times at 12 midnight as it is believed that you will grow taller the follwing year. Well, I got tired of jumping every year, what I need is a miracle or growth balls. During Media Noche, a lot of Filipinos wear their best polka dots clothes or any circular deigned outfits which symbolizes MONEY. They say that anything round on a New Year's Eve connotes being lucky the next year. But I don't think having round tummy for eating a little bit TOO MUCH is an exemption.

Opening the doors will be another custom that people in the Philippines do to welcome luck and happiness for the subsequent year. Putting coins inside each pockets is a long time tradition for Filipinos to ensure that money willnever be an issue the follwoing year.

Filipinos are also fond of going to the midnight mass together to pray for a blessed new year. The traditions in the Philippines are just somehow the same as other countries, but the most important for everyone is just to be with love ones as we greet the new year happily.
